READ TO LEARN / BOOKS FOR FREE

What's the Story?

More books in the hands of our children.
Books they can read once. And once again and again. Books they can carry from the waiting room and read on the journey home. Books their moms and dads, or grandmas, uncles, cousins, friends can read with them on the couch, over cereal bowls at breakfast or pizza dinners, or snuggled in bed in the hour before sleep. Stories that will take them on adventures. Stories in which our kids can see themselves healing the sick, solving crimes, teaching children like themselves, building roads and bridges and tunnels, flying rockets…

Stories that will help them understand that even the sky is not the limit.

Read to Learn Books for Free is a program of The Children's Trust in partnership with The Center for Literature and Theatre @ Miami Dade College. It encourages children and parents to read together by placing bookshelves full of free books in locations throughout Miami-Dade County where parents and children visit together often, including clinics and doctors' offices, the Juvenile Justice Center, and Community Service Centers—40 locations in the first year, and we are hoping to grow. We have created vibrant signage inviting the children to take a book and keep it. We are committed to restocking the bookshelves regularly, keeping them tidy and full of wonderful books.

Forty bookshelves full of free books for children in Miami-Dade County. We know you want to be part of THIS story. Organize a book drive. Adopt a bookshelf. Volunteer to sort the books or re-stock shelves.
