Come and spend an evening listening to travel-inspired stories, poetry and music ranging from the practical to the metaphysical, courtesy of some of South Florida’s best travel writers, spiritual writers, poets, and musicians. Whether you’re interested in a weekend getaway, around the world sojourn, or just want to free your mind, you’ll enjoy this evening of great escapes!

Tom Swick has been a farm worker in Alsace, an English teacher in Greece and
(almost! but he declined) an informant for the pre-Solidarity Polish
government. He is also the author two books, Unquiet Days: At Home in
Poland, and A Way to See the World: From Texas to Transylvania with a
Maverick Traveler. For 19 years was the travel editor of the Sun Sentinel.

Fabiola Santiago was born in Matanzas, “the Athens of Cuba,” and spent
summers, until emigrating to Miami in 1969, “frolicking in the bluest beach
in the world, Varadero.” Santiago is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist
with The Miami Herald and the author of the novel, Reclaiming Paris, which
takes readers on a journey from the Cuba of yesteryear to Miami and
ultimately, Paris, France.
Liz Balmaseda is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist for The Palm Beach
Post. A former Miami Herald columnist whose career includes foreign
correspondent stints at Newsweek and NBC News, she was awarded the Pulitzer
Prize for Commentary in 1993 for her columns on Haitian refugees and the
Cuban-American community. Her first novel, Sweet Mary, will be published in
July 2009.
