Still On the Road: Beat Meets Bop
Thursday, March 27, 7 p.m.
Upstairs at Tobacco Road
626 S. Miami Ave., Miami
It has been more than 50 years since Jack Kerouac sat down and speed typed what would eventually become On the Road onto a 120-ft. scroll comprised of taped-together tracing paper. In spite of its frantic and fragile inception, few books have remained so durable, influential, or
relevant to generations of disaffected youth and the movements they created: beat, sixties counterculture, punk, and alternative.
Join David Amram, musician and author of Offbeat: Collaborating With Kerouac, the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus Hard Bop Jazz Ensemble, the winner of the On the Road writing contest, and others for a night of prose, poetry, and music.

The Noir Side of the Sun: Crimes, Mysteries,
and Thrillers—Miami Style
Thursday, May 22, 6:30 p.m.
Soya e Pomodoro
120 N.E. 1st St., Miami
Don’t be fooled by the beach, the weather, or the palm trees; South Florida has more than its share of the nefarious—corruption, greed, crime, double-dealing, violence, and sex—the raw materials of any good noir story.
Grab your fedora (or Panama hat) and join us for a night of deliciously dark tales, set hard against the sunny façade of Miami, presented by some of the area’s most talented crime and mystery writers. Live music and movies, too! |
