Graphic novels combine text and art to tell a story. Good graphic novels use that combination to make something that transcends what both text and art are separately. Explore the challenges of storytelling in the graphic novel medium through lectures and interactive workshops.
Quality comics require a different toolkit than novels, picture books, screenplays, or poetry. Come explore the mysteries and challenges of storytelling in the graphic novel medium, now the most vibrant, growing category in publishing.
Facilitator
Mark Siegel is the Editorial Director of First Second books, bringing a collection of literary graphic novels to America, with titles for every age, in a wide range of themes and genres, and an uncompromising emphasis on quality. Alongside his life as an editor, he has continued work on his own projects, including Long Night Moon, Boogie Knights, and To Dance, A Ballerina’s Graphic Novel which won a Seibert Honor.
