A rigorous yet supportive workshop, intended for writers who are in the process of completing a memoir, from early draft to final revisions. In response to participant’s submissions, the class, under the direction of the instructor, will provide insightful and constructive peer critique, while also discussing important issues, such as structure, elements of craft and revision. Participants should, at a minimum, have completed a substantial portion of a draft of their memoir and have previously taken at least one creative writing class.
A frequent instructor for the Florida Center for the Literary Arts, Nicholas Garnett is enrolled in the MFA program in creative writing at Florida International University, where he serves as nonfiction editor for the University's literary journal, Gulf Stream. His writing has appeared in the journal R.KV.R.Y. and the Florida Book Review. His nonfiction story, "Straight Guy," won the Florida International University's literary award. He has been awarded grants for writing residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony. His memoir, Straight Guy, is currently with a literary agent.
