Using writing exercises, literature for children and young adults, and discussion of student manuscripts, participants learn what makes a good story, and how to use these elements in their own writing.  This course includes readings, writing exercises, and class discussions.

Meribeth Shank is a picture book writer with an M.F.A. in Writing for Children.  In her previous lives she has taught kindergarten, managed a children’s bookstore, served as early childhood specialist for a family literacy program, coordinated the programming for the children’s room of a public library and continues her library work at Miami Country Day School.  Her reviews of books for children and young adults presently appear in Miami Family magazine.
