Once again, the Florida Center for the Literary Arts at Miami Dade College presents to everyone in South Florida an ambitious fall season, featuring a host of high-quality literary activities and initiatives, the focus of which range from local, to statewide and international.
The Center’s countywide reading program, One Book,
One Community has broadened its focus considerably as it has evolved into The Big Read, a national initiative of the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts. This fall we are reading The Joy Luck Club.
Celebrating Florida’s treasure trove of physical beauty, diversity of cultures, and the creativity they engender in our abundant pool of local talent, the Center will present “HomeGrown,” a celebration of Florida poets and poetry.
Our Spanish-language theatre, Prometeo, unveils a special two-year professional certificate program in theatre arts, designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for a life in the theatre. This program is the only one of its kind in the country.
We’re also pleased to present The Translation Summit, an exciting and innovative program which adds an important component to Miami Book Fair International. Turn to page 41 to learn more about the pilot phase happening this November.
In addition to all of this, we’ll continue to offer the diverse and engaging programs you’ve come to expect from us. Peruse this brochure, and we hope you’ll agree, if your interest is in the literary arts we’ve got you covered —
like a book.
